Ingredients
Exact ingredient quantities can be found at the bottom of this page.
To make these low calorie red velvet brownies you will need:
Plain or All-purpose flour – This recipe calls for plain or all-purpose flour. For a gluten free alternative, you can use gluten free flour or oat flour.
Unsweetened cocoa powder – Unsweetened cocoa powder is the secret to getting that dark, intense chocolate flavor without any added sugars or calories. I always use Hershey’s unsweetened cocoa powder.
Stevia or 0 calorie granulated sweetener – Any 0 calorie sweetener will work for this recipe but my go-to for baking is stevia. The stevia I use is a 1:2 ratio of stevia to sugar so keep this in mind when you’re weighing out your sweetener. If it is a 1:1 ratio to sugar, double the amount I use. If it is a 1:10 ratio of stevia to sugar, use a fifth of the amount I use and so on.
Baking powder – A little bit of baking powder is required for this recipe to give the brownies a little rise. They still turn out super fudgy!
Egg – This recipe calls for 1 medium egg.
Reduced fat yogurt – This recipe calls for reduced fat yogurt instead of fat free yogurt. This is because there is no butter or oil and therefore very little fat in this recipe. The little fat in the reduced fat yogurt will help give the brownies so much moisture leading to the iconic fudgy centre we all love!
Unsweetened almond milk – Unsweetened almond milk is very low in calories. You can use any milk you would like for this recipe, but the calories may differ slightly.
Vanilla extract – A red velvet staple.
White chocolate chips – To tie everything together, add in your favorite chocolate chips! Although this recipe calls for white chocolate, feel free to use milk chocolate, semi-sweet chocolate or any chocolate you love! If you want to decrease the calories even further and have a sugar-free brownie, opt for these sugar-free chocolate chips!
Red food coloring – No red velvet recipe is complete without red food coloring!
Optional – You can melt down a little white chocolate, add some red food coloring and drizzle them along the brownies. Top with some dried strawberries for the cutest valentines day brownies! This part is optional and will only add an extra 7 calories to each brownie!
